TIME WITH (DISTRICT) FAMILY

New Ventures

One of the strengths of the New Ventures approach is the importance placed on remembering that we are a part of a larger family: The Alliance Canada. While we lean into our various new expressions, we can also lean on our denomination’s strong values, deep roots, and shared experiences. This relationship is on full display when we meet, pray, learn, and recommit to our shared calling at district retreats.

Jeanette Boehm attended her third retreat with the Central District. This year she spent time reflecting on her rich journey through various ministry experiences and transitions. The retreat allowed for a meaningful time of remembrance and renewal. “It gave me permission to grieve and yet be excited for the new things God is doing, while reminding me that I am not a failure.”

For Bret Chapman in the Eastern District, this was his first year attending a retreat, and he came away with a noticeable  feeling of clarity: “I sensed God encouraging me to trust Him more deeply with areas of uncertainty in my leadership, and to lean into His strength as I drive forward.”

For others, the retreat provided the opportunity to meet other like-minded leaders. In the Western District, Josh Rice, a New Venture leader  from the Calgary area, said that he was encouraged by a couple from Edmonton whose ministry approach was very similar to his. Caleb Delamont valued the time spent connecting with other New Ventures leaders, and was “reminded that we are not alone in this calling, even though it might feel like that sometimes.”

While New Ventures takes risks and steps out, we are thankful for those who walk with us. We have support from our church family, meaningful partnerships for ministry, and a shared calling to reach Canada with the good news of Jesus.
