Volunteer & Training

Recruit, Relate, Resource, Reward and Retain

Every pastor knows that our programs are only as good as our teams. Without them, we cannot achieve the kind of ministry God calls us to. Volunteers are essential—they need opportunities to grow as leaders through training.

Recruit and Train Volunteers

Volunteer Recruitment & Training

Find resources and guidelines to help you recruit volunteers for various roles, provide effective training and ongoing support, and keep your teams engaged.

  1. Schedule training at a time that works for them.
  2. Make it worth their time—but not too long.
  3. Offer rewards such as door prizes, food, and child care.
  4. Include training requirements in their job description.
  5. Send out the agenda ahead of time.
  6. Host role-specific training sessions.
  7. Share books and resources.
  8. Plan an annual retreat or conference.
  9. Organize regular check-ins via social media or texts.
  10. Enlist senior leadership support.

The Importance of Volunteer Mentoring

When starting a mentoring ministry for your KidMin volunteers, prayerfully plan and recruit the right people. Faithfulness to Titus 2 is key—mentor with authenticity.

No plan will be perfect. Begin simply, observe, and adjust as needed. Mentoring invests in the future of mentors, mentees, and your church.
